Star Wars 1/72

B-Wing Starfighter

Kit Review

Straight build + Panel lining

This kit is the 1/72 B-Wing Starfighter from Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi — a fighter with a distinctively tall, vertical form. In the actual craft, the wings and cockpit can rotate to fly horizontally or at a diagonal, and the kit captures that unique style with impressively precise detail and a great sense of volume, almost like it jumped straight out of the film.

On top of that, the ship is large by design, so once built, the height ends up being quite a bit taller than you'd expect. Since it uses an extended version of the clear stand from the 1/6 Stormtrooper, the display height gets pretty substantial. It might be a tight fit in a display cabinet, though you can always display it horizontally or at a diagonal instead.

Aside from the rotating wings and cockpit and the included laser effect parts, there aren't many other options to speak of. The canopy does come in both versions just like the previous kits — a clear piece and one with just the bars. As a bonus, you can also add the separately sold yellow LED unit to pull off a vernier glow effect.

Either way, this kit is significant as a clean, high-quality plastic model release of the B-Wing, following the A-Wing and X-Wing before it — and it's a great build that any Star Wars fan will enjoy. :-)
