Star Wars 1/12

First Order Stormtrooper

Kit Review

Straight build + Seals

This kit is the First Order Stormtrooper released in 1/12 scale. The overall design has changed from the original Stormtrooper seen in Episodes 4–6, but honestly the difference in proportions stands out even more than the design changes. It seems like they based it on the Stormtrooper who had a lead role in the film, and that actor does have a stocky, compact build. If you've seen the movie, you'll immediately get the feeling that this perfectly captures the physique of "Finn," the Stormtrooper played by John Boyega. The high level of accuracy to the source material is definitely a plus.

The basic construction is the same as the previous Stormtrooper, so you can just enjoy the updated design as you look through the review photos. The weapons have gotten a bit more varied though — you get the F-11D Blaster Rifle, tonfa, and Betaplast Riot Shield, which gives you plenty of options for posing. That said, arm articulation is slightly worse than the original Stormtrooper, and the shorter legs mean poses don't always look as clean.

Either way, there's nothing structurally new here and the design isn't drastically different, so it can feel a little been-there-done-that. Still, as a newly designed Stormtrooper for the new series, the overall quality remains solid and clean, so it's a kit I can easily recommend to any Star Wars fan. :-)
