Kit Review

Straight build + Panel lining + Seals
BB-8, the adorable little mech from Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, has been released as a combo kit together with R2-D2.
BB-8 features effective color separation across the entire body, so even a straight build captures the look of the original film really well. A special U-shaped clear stand is included, and it's cleverly designed so the head stays fixed while the body rolls around like a ball. Three arm options are provided so you can recreate various scenes from the film.
For R2-D2, the exact same runners from the previously released Episode 4–6 version that came bundled with R5-D4 have been reused — the only difference is that gloss injection has been applied, giving the surface a nice sheen.
Honestly, it might have been better to release BB-8 on its own, and for anyone who's already built the previous R2-D2, this combo feels a bit awkward. Either way, if you want the cute little BB-8, you're stuck buying R2-D2 along with it — but I'd say BB-8's quality is good enough that it's well worth it. :-)
