Star Wars 1/12

Kylo Ren

Kit Review

Straight build + Seals

Kylo Ren, the villain boss of Star Wars Episode 7 - The Force Awakens, has been released as a 1/12 scale plastic model. He did seem a bit lacking in the Force department to really fill Darth Vader's shoes, but he's still a character that pulls off that all-black-costume bad guy look.

So while he may not have quite the same presence as Darth Vader as a character, the kit itself comes out with far better quality than the 1/12 Darth Vader. The soft material used for the clothing — which covers everything from the head cowl all the way down to the feet, including the inner skirt around the waist — gives it a really nice feel in hand. The body proportions and posability are excellent as well, making this the most satisfying kit to handle in the entire series.

His signature cross-shaped lightsaber is also nicely recreated using three beam parts going in different directions, and thanks to the relatively great articulation and sharp proportions, you can pull off some surprisingly dynamic action poses. It's also great that the soft material of the clothing doesn't get in the way of posing at all.

All in all, this is easily the highest quality kit in Bandai's 1/12 Star Wars figure lineup, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone who enjoyed Episode 7. :-)
