Kit Review

Straight build + Panel lining + Seals
In January 2020, ahead of the release of Star Wars Episode 9: The Rise of Skywalker, Episode 9 version model kits started hitting shelves. The first one out of the gate is the Millennium Falcon (Ver. episode 9). Compared to the previous Episode 7/8 versions, there are three main changes.
1. The top antenna changed from a rectangular shape to a round dish
2. The cockpit crew parts changed to Poe and Finn
3. The stand's molded color changed
Everything else — all the structure, seals, and decals — is completely identical to the Episode 8 version. In short, it's a variation where very little was changed and it feels like they took the easy way out, which does come across as a bit lazy. My guess is they were targeting people who had been eyeing that original-type round antenna. So for this review, you really just need to check the changes, and for a detailed look at every nook and cranny, please refer to the 1/144 Millennium Falcon (Ver. episode 7) reviewfor reference.
Also, since the Episode 7/8/9 versions are structurally 98% identical, it can get a bit confusing when trying to pick one of the three. I've put together a handy table below to make it easier to understand, so take a look.
| Antenna | Front left detail | Stand color | Pilot figures | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Episode 7 | Rectangular | Original type | Desert tan | Finn, Rey, Han Solo, Chewbacca,BB-8 |
| Episode 8 | Modified type | Light gray | Rey, Chewbacca | |
| Episode 9 | Round dish | Dark gray | Poe, Finn |
Anyway, while there isn't much that's new, this is still a kit with incredible sculpting and detail — so if you haven't already built the 1/144 Millennium Falcon in another version, it's definitely worth recommending. :-)
