A Droid Collection has been newly added to Bandai's Star Wars lineup. It's a series based on previously released droid mecha, with changes to the molded colors and added accessories — and the first product out of the gate is the 1/12 R2-D2 Rocket Booster Ver.
At its core, this is the existing R2-D2 kit with a rocket booster gimmick, new accessory parts, and a stand thrown in. That said, the molded color changes are a bit subtle — it comes out as a mashup of the previously released Episode 4–6 version and Episode 7 version. The Episode 4–6 version used standard injection molding, while the Episode 7 version was a combination of gloss injection and silver Extra Finish plated parts. This kit goes with gloss injection plus standard silver injection. It seems like they were trying to differentiate it from previous versions one way or another, but the combination feels a little awkward..
The added accessory parts show the same level of detail as the existing ones, and the stand comes with a handy feature that lets you store accessory parts on either side. Anyway, since the overall contents and features are the same as before, you really just need to check out the newly added accessories and the updated molded color combination. :-)
