Star Wars 1/12

The Mandalorian (Bescar Armor)

Kit Review

Straight build + Seals

This kit is the 1/12 The Mandalorian (Beskar Armor), based on the character from The Mandalorian, the Star Wars spin-off drama streaming on Disney+. The overall package is similar to the previously released 1/12 Boba Fett. Some parts are reused, but most of the exterior is done with new sculpts.

The build feel and joints are similar to its predecessors, but since it's based on Boba Fett's joint structure, the limb articulation still feels a bit restrictive. On top of that, the feet are on the small side, which makes posing on a flat surface a bit tricky — you really need to balance the center of gravity carefully. That said, the joint strength is decent and the sculpt looks great, so if you get a good pose going, it can look pretty convincing.

Weapons include a rifle, blaster, spear, and the Darksaber. The rifle and spear can be mounted on the back using dedicated joint parts. The cape is made from a fabric material, which gives it a great sense of realism — it's soft and cloth-like, not the stiff material you'd find in older Bandai kits. However, the fabric has a slightly springy quality to it, which makes it hard to get it to drape naturally. When you try to drape the cape over the sides of the jetpack, it tends to stick out and look a bit floaty.

To sum it up, the sculpt and realism are solid, but as an action figure it feels a little lacking. There are also a lot of seals included, though quite a few of them are surprisingly fiddly to apply (you'll know what I mean once you try it...). Either way, it's still meaningful that the Mandalorian has been brought to life as part of Bandai's Star Wars lineup. :-)
