Star Wars 1/72

Red Squadron X-Wing Starfighter Sp. Set

Kit Review

Straight build + Panel lining + Seals

This is the Red Squadron X-Wing Starfighter Sp. Set released as a Rogue One version. Since the Rogue One story takes place right before Episode 4, it's structurally identical to the Episodes 4–6 version of the 1/72 X-Wing.

As a result, it reuses the runners from the existing 1/72 X-Wing as-is, with only the stand swapped out for a plain black version. In the end, the biggest change in the Rogue One version is the seals — and while they are completely different seals, they still feel pretty similar overall.

That said, just swapping the seals alone probably felt like too little, so a 1/144 scale X-Wing was bundled in as well — and this kit is also straight from the Mecha Collection release. Just like the 1/72, only the seals have been changed to the Rogue One Red Squadron version, so the whole thing has a pretty strong smell of recycling going on.

So aside from the seals, everything here is repackaged from existing kits — but they still show great quality with impressive detail for the scale. I think the real takeaway here is simply that an X-Wing kit with Rogue One version seals now exists. :-)
