The Millennium Falcon (Lando Calrissian Ver.) from Solo: A Star Wars Story has been released in 1/144 scale. It may look similar to the original Millennium Falcon at first glance, but it's actually a completely different design — and thanks to the front shuttle gimmick, it's noticeably longer.
The kit's overall composition is similar to the existing 1/144 Millennium Falcon, but since the design is different, all the sculpting is naturally made up of new parts. That said, the molds are somewhat simpler overall and some features have been left out. The separately sold LED gimmick is the same, but the landing gear and boarding platform gimmicks are gone — you just get plain covers instead.
In their place, you get the front shuttle separation feature where you can attach a separate verniers block, and part of the interior living quarters is reproduced inside. Compared to the original Millennium Falcon's completely hollow interior, it feels like a step forward — and with a good number of seals, you can pull off a convincing look for the living quarters even without painting. You can also remove the central cover after assembly to peek inside, though the opening is pretty small so you can't see a whole lot.
Two stands are included so you can display the front shuttle separately as well, and using both stands together lets you pull off a convincing shuttle separation scene. Beam effect parts for the top and bottom gun barrels are also included.
The detailing may be a bit simpler than before, but this is still a kit that demands an enormous amount of panel lining work. A straight build looks way too bare, so even if you skip painting, panel lining is pretty much a must. In my case it took around 8 hours at a relaxed pace — there's just so much surface detail that you'll want to settle in, be patient, and maybe put something on TV while you work.
It's a lot of work, but this is definitely a kit where just panel lining and seals make it feel totally worth it. It's a great pick for any Star Wars fan who wants to build a Millennium Falcon that's a little different from the original. :-)
