Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers
Woody was released as a Bandai plastic model kit to commemorate the release of Toy Story 4. The overall setup feels similar to Figure-rise Standard, but the building experience is quite different — probably because of the stuffed toy concept. Excellent color separation gives it a great straight build look.
The face-swapping feature and limb articulation are similar to other figure model kits, but the standout feature here is the moving eye gimmick where the eyeballs actually rotate. This was probably only possible because the character has such a large head. The eyes are built up by combining a round white sclera piece with a brown iris, then topping it off with a pupil sticker. Inside the head, there's enough clearance and space for the round eyeballs to spin, so you can rotate them by touching them from the outside. That said, not all three face parts have rotating eyes — on the slightly squinting face, only one eye rotates.
With the rotating eyes, you can pull off an even wider range of expressions, and the solid articulation and joint strength make it a lot of fun to pose in all kinds of interesting ways. On top of that, a clear stand and foot peg are included, so you can fix one foot to the base and strike all sorts of dynamic poses.
One issue though is the connection between the head and hat — it barely holds on at all. There's a fixing hole inside the hat, but there's nothing on the head to plug into it, so it just sits on top without any real grip. One little tap and the hat falls right off.
Aside from the iffy hat-to-head connection, this is a really excellent character model kit — the overall quality feels even a notch above Figure-rise Standard. Most of all, the sculpt is so good it looks like Woody just jumped straight out of the movie, so if you're a Toy Story fan, this is definitely a kit I'd highly recommend. :-)
