The Hard Graph series (a.k.a. military Gunpla) — which always felt like it was on shaky ground — keeps on going. The 4th release in the series is none other than the E.F.G.F Anti MS Squad set: brave soldiers taking on mobile suits with guided missile weapons. ^^
But the real highlight of Hard Graph has always been the mecha included with each kit. This one comes with a 1/35 scale forearm from the Ground-type Gundam. This massive Gundam forearm... it's honestly my favorite piece of Hard Graph mecha released so far!
The detail alone is far more intricate than I expected, and the hatch open feature is properly implemented. The elbow joint even has layered inner mechanics depicted inside. The photos above should give you a good sense of it — no need for more words. On top of that jaw-dropping detail, another big selling point is that this is the easiest and most fun Hard Graph kit to build yet.
Previous Hard Graph mecha kits, while appealing to Gunpla-focused hobbyists, had a way of making you think mid-build, "Ah... this is definitely different from Gunpla..." — you had to work carefully with tweezers and glue like you were building a military model. It was a bit removed from that satisfying snap-together feel.
But this Ground-type Gundam forearm gives you that snap-fit Gunpla building feel while still delivering military-grade detail. It also makes you think — if they released a full 1/35 Gunpla with a torso and legs built the same way, that would be incredibly fun! Either way, out of all the Hard Graph mecha released so far, this feels like the one that Gunpla fans will welcome the most.
The quality of the five figures is on par with previous releases — they still have decent color separation, so even a straight build looks reasonably complete. Applying decals is a little easier than before, and crucially, stands are now included, which is a huge plus! ^^ Previous Hard Graph figures were often hard to stand on their own, which was a bit of a hassle — but since this kit includes individual stands for all of them, displaying them on a surface is much easier. Part of it is probably because some of the poses literally can't stand without a stand, but it also feels like they addressed one of the main complaints about earlier kits. Either way, very welcome.
Overall, out of the four Hard Graph kits released so far, this one has the cleanest, most polished feel for some reason. It's worth recommending even to those who were a bit disappointed by earlier Hard Graph releases, and honestly even if you disliked the military-model building style of Hard Graph, this is a solid enough kit to recommend. The price is reasonable, and the Gundam forearm alone — which easily blows PG hands out of the water — makes it worth picking up. :-)
