Wataru HG Amplified IMGN

Kujinmaru

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

Kujinmaru from Mashin Hero Wataru has been released as an HG Amplified IMGN kit. In Japan it's a Premium Bandai exclusive, while overseas — including Korea — it's available as a standard retail release. HG Amplified IMGN RyujinmaruThis is the second Wataru kit in real-scale proportions to be released, following that one.

First off, the overall color separation is excellent, giving it a great straight build look. The design color scheme is achieved entirely through parts separation with no extra seals needed — only one jewel sticker is applied on the chest for a 3D effect. The wings, legs, and neck all move fairly well with decent flexibility, and joint strength is solid. The stand joint parts hold nice and firm too, so you can display it comfortably using the included stand.

You can also combine it with the HG Amplified IMGN Ryujinmaru using the joint parts. Since they're both the same real-scale models, they fit together without any major issues. That said, while Ryujinmaru's gold parts are plated, Kujinmaru's gold parts are uncoated with a dull, muddy molded color, so there's a bit of an awkward mismatch between the two. Also, there's a scene in the reference artwork where Kujinmaru grabs onto Ryujinmaru's shoulders during flight, but since there's no dedicated locking mechanism on Kujinmaru's feet or Ryujinmaru's shoulders, that pose is pretty tricky to pull off.

Either way, it's significant just to have a real-scale proportion Kujinmaru released outside of the SD format. It does feel a bit removed from the original work, but if you already have the HG Amplified IMGN Ryujinmaru, this kit is definitely worth picking up. :-)
