Following Garmillas Warship Set 1, Set 2 has now been released, containing one Gaidorol-class battleship, two Kripitera-class battleships, and one heavy tank.
The overall kit composition and concept are identical to the previous set — it's essentially just a new batch of different items. Unlike Set 1, which included two somewhat plain-looking battleships of similar design, this one stands out by offering the larger and more stylish Gaidorol-class battleship.
First up, the Gaidorol-class battleship at 35cm — the same length as the Yamato — has a more complex color combination and a much cooler look compared to the other ships. It has a higher part count thanks to its size, and the assembly process is genuinely a lot of fun. ^^
The Kripitera-class battleship included as the second ship looks pretty similar to the ones from Set 1, so it doesn't feel particularly fresh... On top of that, having two of the exact same ship packed in together just feels like an unnecessary price hike. -.-;
Third, the Saruba S-VI heavy tank feels like a bonus throw-in — it's small and cute, but shows off some pretty decent detail. It's a refreshing and fun little build in its own right.
The overall assembly is snap-fit based, so it moves along at a nice easy pace. That said, you do have to glue dozens of tiny scale-like parts on one by one with tweezers, which gets a bit tedious. Tweezers are an absolute must, and if you don't get a good grip, those little scales go flying off and disappear — I spent quite a while hunting them down. (ugh)
Anyway, it's always nice to see more Yamato ships coming out... but personally, I still can't help wishing they'd re-release the Andromeda at this quality level. (=_=) It'd sell way better than these similar-looking Garmillas battleships, I'd think. Either way, at ¥5000 this is definitely not a kit for everyone — it's really one for Yamato fans only. :-)
