Yamato 1/1000

Yamato 2199 Guipellon Class Lambea

Kit Review

Straight build

The triple-deck carrier was one of the more distinctive warships from the old Yamato anime, and in Yamato 2199 it's been upgraded and reimagined as various multi-deck carrier vessels. And as the first of these multi-deck carriers, the Guipellon-class Lambea has made its appearance as an injection kit ^^

The Lambea is a 4-tier multi-deck carrier, and it's quite a challenging design to pull off as an injection kit. Unlike other warship kits, the assembly process of stacking it tier by tier is pretty interesting. That said, the complex parts breakdown does make it a bit tricky to build — around the middle tiers I had some difficulty lining up the top and bottom to fit together. In particular, some of the fixing pins seem poorly toleranced and go in way too tight, so you'll want to follow the manual carefully to avoid breaking anything during assembly.

Once complete, it's a big kit at a whopping 41cm — the longest and most voluminous release in the existing 1/1000 Yamato series. The deck and hull sections have perfect color separation, so even as a straight build it looks pretty good, and the bridge and various detail areas came out at a quite satisfying level. (Though I do wonder why they didn't do deck color separation on the Darold? Hmm.)

Being an aircraft carrier-style kit, it comes with a massive 42 carrier aircraft — 21 Snukas and 21 Debakkes. They're small but the detail is decent, and best of all you can line them all up across the deck, which makes for a really impressive display.

As a bonus, one space carrier attack craft Snuka is included. Other kits sometimes throw in 2 bonus fighters, but the Lambea only comes with one. Maybe because the main kit is already so pricey? Either way, the Snuka's detail and proportions are excellent, so no complaints there.

After building nothing but similarly-colored green Gamilas warships, assembling a multi-deck carrier like this feels quite refreshing. The kit was released at a steep ¥6,800 — probably because the engineering was so complex — but for fans of this type of space warship kit, I think the size and detail are well worth the price. I'm looking forward to the various other multi-deck carrier kits that'll be released down the line :-)
