Yamato 2199 Garmillas Warship Set 4

Kit Review

Straight build

The fourth Garmillas Warship Set in the Yamato 2199 lineup has arrived. This kit includes a 1/1000 Haizerad-class Astro Battleship that measures nearly 40cm in length, along with the scout plane FG156 Smarhi and a Derameia-class Assault Landing Ship.

First up, the main attraction — the Haizerad-class battleship. Just like its predecessors, smart parts breakdown gives it a great sense of depth, and it's easy to build with a uniquely satisfying assembly feel that should be a refreshing change of pace for anyone tired of Gunpla. That said, the design concept is pretty similar to the other Garmillas warships, so it doesn't feel dramatically new compared to earlier kits. It's probably the kind of design that only really means something to Yamato fans who can tell them apart.

The scout plane FG156 Smarhi has a stealth-like look with its elongated wings, and it's cleanly rendered with a minimal parts count. The Derameia-class Assault Landing Ship is also well done with few parts, though oddly enough it has stickers for the nozzle section. The line has consistently used clear parts + waterslide decals for similar areas on other kits, so it's a bit out of left field that only the assault landing ship gets nozzle stickers. That said, for anyone doing a straight build, the nozzle stickers actually look pretty decent — it'd be nice to see them applied to other kits in the line too. ^^

As a bonus, two small vehicles are also included — one Saruba S-VI Heavy Tank and one Meruba M-III Armored Medical Transport, one of each. Each is neatly depicted in just two parts, but only getting one of each is a bit disappointing. Previous sets threw in dozens of fighter planes, so this feels a little lacking by comparison.

And just like that, we're already on the fourth Garmillas Warship Set. These are items that must have taken considerable development costs, yet they keep churning them out — which suggests they're selling reasonably well. (Then again, they are on the pricier side.) Either way, if you're a Yamato fan who loves spaceship kits, this looks like a fun build. :-)
