The 1/12 Analyzer has joined the Yamato 2199 lineup, which had previously only featured battleships and fighters. It's a mech that feels a lot like R2-D2 from Star Wars — a genuinely cute little character. ^^
First off, the color separation is well done so that most of the design colors are achieved even with just a straight build, and the various moving parts are faithfully reproduced. That said, given its naturally chubby body with short stubby limbs, this isn't exactly a kit that pulls off flashy dynamic poses. ^^; It's more like... you can get some cute adorable poses out of it? And the little hand parts are a nice bonus~
On the detail front, the use of clear parts really stands out — the double-layered clear parts on the head and the small holes on the front of the body are all nicely reproduced with clear parts. On top of that, you can insert a separately sold LED unit inside the body to recreate a light-up effect across the entire torso and head. Yellow and green LED units are recommended, but the LED light source feels a bit weak relative to how wide the exposed lighting area is. I think it'd look a whole lot cooler if you could get a stronger LED in there.
One downside is that the leg joints aren't great — probably because no polycaps are used at all. The hold itself isn't terrible, but the joints tend to pop out pretty easily during posing. On top of that, the caterpillar tread feet have less grip than you'd expect, so if you're not careful about balancing that chubby body, it'll just topple right over. ^^;
Maybe that's why a standard 1/144 action base is included — for action poses, you're probably better off using it. Either way, this kit is significant in that one of Yamato's most beloved little mechs has been reborn with modern-day quality, and it's a fun build that any longtime Yamato fan should definitely try at least once. :-)
