Yamato 1/1000

Yamato 2199 Nazca Class Kiska

Kit Review

Straight build

The Yamato 2199 lineup has been churning out Gamilas warships left and right, but this time we finally get the Nazca Class Kiska from the Gatlantis Empire (a.k.a. the White Comet Empire), the main enemy faction from the theatrical film. The original design — conceived around an insect motif — is quite old, but the redesign has turned it into a remarkably intricate and detailed space battleship. ^^

The ship has a distinctive two-tiered structure, so the assembly method — building the top and bottom sections separately and then joining them — feels fresh and fun. True to Bandai's warship kit style, the snap-tight assembly goes together smoothly and satisfyingly, with solid hold even without any glue. Color separation is well done across the deck area and the lit sections on the top panel, so the straight build already looks pretty great. At the very least, it's got way more presence than those monotone green Gamilas ships...

Aside from the small gun barrels on the top section, there are no moving parts to speak of, so this is really a kit you sit back and appreciate for its sculpt and detail. Four 1/1000 scale Dessvatator bombers are included so you can display them on the deck. On top of that, a bonus Dessvatator roughly the size of a cigarette pack is also included — small, but the detail and sculpt quality are surprisingly good.

Yamato-style warship kits are all about sculpt and three-dimensionality, and this one's charm lies in its more distinctive and clean look compared to the Gamilas fleet. The ¥6,800 price tag feels a bit steep given the volume of parts, but for Yamato fans it's definitely worth every yen. :-)
