Yamato 1/1000

U.N.C.F AAA-Class Andromeda DX

Kit Review

Straight build

Bandai has released the 1/1000 Andromeda DX as part of their Yamato lineup. It's essentially a mashup of existing kits — the movie effect parts have been removed from the 1/1000 Andromeda Movie Effect kit, and the 1/1000 Apollo Norm bridge is added in gray molded color.

On top of that, a newly designed wave motion gun nozzle for the Andromeda "Kai" and a large set of waterslide decals have been added. The new wave motion gun nozzle is blue and features a more detailed design, and spread across two decal sheets you get a full collection of decals for various Andromeda-class vessels. The variants you can build from this kit through painting and waterslide decals are as follows:

AAA-1 Andromeda
AAA-2 Aldebaran
AAA-3 Apollo Norm
AAA-4 Achilles
AAA-5 Antares
BBB Andromeda Black
CCC-01 Neu Balgrey
ZZZ-01 Andromeda Kai

Even though the movie effect parts are gone, the Apollo Norm/Antares bridge has been added, and yet the price comes in at ¥7,500 — a whopping ¥4,500 cheaper than before. Since the movie effect parts were pricey to begin with, the end result is a significantly more affordable kit. The basic structural features of the main hull are the same as before, so for this review you really just need to check out the Apollo Norm bridge in its new color scheme.

Anyway, it's a bit of an awkward item if you already own the existing Andromeda, but if you love the Andromeda and have been holding off on the Movie Effect kit because of the price, this one's definitely worth recommending. :-)
