RX-78F00 Gundam & G-Dock

Kit Review

Straight build + Panel lining + Stickers

This kit is the 1/144 RX-78F00 Gundam & G-Dock, a Gundam Factory Yokohama exclusive release. The 1/144 RX-78F00 Gundam is also available separately for ¥1500. This kit adds the G-Dock to that and was released as a combined set for ¥2500.

First off, the look is a straight-up scaled-down version of the 1:1 Gundam on display at Gundam Factory Yokohama. Much like the 30th Anniversary HG Gundam, it's characterized by some rather over-the-top panel lines. On top of that, the latest articulation technology has been applied, delivering excellent upper-mid-tier articulation and joint strength. Thanks to that, it's come out as a kit that's easy to pose and feels solid.

The build process feels pretty much like putting together any standard modern HG kit — it's really just the design that's new. With so many outstanding 1/144 First Gundam kits out there, this one can feel a little ordinary by comparison. As for weapons, you get the standard loadout of a beam rifle, shield, and beam sabers, but no bazooka included.

The G-Dock is a scaled-down replica of the actual 1:1 dock in Yokohama, right down to the connection points with the Gundam. With a relatively simple build you get a surprisingly solid sense of depth and volume, and the forward/backward movement of the lower stand and the front section opening gimmick are both faithfully reproduced. You can also adjust the height of the connection point between the stand and the Gundam in 3 steps, so you can recreate the various poses demonstrated at the actual Yokohama site with a real sense of authenticity.

So that's the Yokohama 1:1 Gundam brought to life in 1/144 with solid, no-frills quality. By faithfully scaling down the G-Dock as well, I think the real significance here is that it lets you realistically capture the look of that actual moving 1:1 Gundam. :-)
