The Gundam G-Self Perfect Pack — the ultimate final form of the G-Self — has been released as an HG kit. It's the complete package that lets you use every ability the G-Self has to offer, based on the original Gundam G-Self with over 60% new parts added.
First off, the generous use of blue clear parts gives the Perfect Pack and Photon Armor Shield a really clean look. The binders can spread open, and the multi-joint arms let you position everything freely, so you can recreate all kinds of poses from the show.
Compared to the original Gundam G-Self, the body has revised shoulder and side skirt designs, and the base molded color has been shifted from a jade-ish tone to something closer to pure white. That said, the articulation wasn't great to begin with for a main character kit, so poses relying on the body alone can feel a bit lacking in impact. On the flip side, the backpack is so versatile that you can set it up in all sorts of impressive configurations — flight, Assault, Reflector, you name it — making this a pretty solid kit visually.
So while it's hard to call this a top-tier quality kit, it's a solid, no-frills HG overall. More than anything, the appeal is being able to build the G-Self in its ultimate final form, and displayed in Reflector Mode it's quite the showpiece.
Unfortunately, Tomino's own G-Reco anime didn't exactly set the world on fire, and the plastic model line seems to have lost some steam as well. Personally, I get the feeling Bandai has been putting more weight behind the Build Fighters Try kit lineup — but either way, if you're a G-Reco fan, this one is definitely worth building. :-)
