Kit Review
Straight build + Panel lining
Straight build + Panel lining
Following the MG line, a new 1/144 HGUC series has begun. And the first shot fired is the Guncannon — one of the main stars of First Gundam! The technology built up through the MG line seems to have carried over directly into 1/144 scale, because the first HGUC Guncannon showed up with a pretty jaw-dropping level of quality.
First off, the molded colors are nearly perfect, so the color reproduction looks fantastic. Even a straight build gets you almost completely on-spec colors. But what really blew everyone away was the proportions and articulation. It can pull off a fully kneeling pose — something that usually only decent MGs can manage. The proportions are great so it holds poses well, and the joints are tuned to just the right amount of stiffness.
That said, while each joint has good range of motion, when you actually try to strike a pose things tend to catch on each other here and there, which can limit what you can pull off. Dynamic poses are a bit of a challenge. (Maybe I was asking too much? ^^;)
This is a landmark piece in Gunpla history — one that completely shatters the old assumption that 1/144 scale means small and cute but mediocre in detail and quality. And it's cheap too, with great quality to boot~
