Gouf

Kit Review

Straight build + Panel lining

The Gouf — a popular mobile suit that somehow feels similar to the Zaku yet carries even more charisma — has finally gotten the HGUC treatment. Right off the bat, this is personally one of my top HGUC recommendations. The molded color and proportions are just spot on!

Unlike the MG Gouf, the overall blue tone here is brighter, and it looks really nice — honestly it looks even better than the MG's overly dark and dull blue. The weapons loadout is fairly well covered too, with a shield, blade, rifle, and two types of heat rods. Above all, the proportions are just subtly great, so once you finish it and strike a pose, it looks re~al~ly impressive. As you can see in the photos above, the action poses look anything but ordinary for a 1/144 scale kit. The joints are also just stiff enough to hold poses well.

That said, despite the otherwise great proportions, the leg articulation is on the poor side. Part of it is the Gouf's design making it hard for the front skirts to lift up, and the joint and foot structure don't help the articulation much either. Still, it's kind of amazing that it can pull off such good poses anyway ^^;

All in all, even among the generally high-quality HGUC lineup, this is clearly a standout kit that really captures the feel of the mobile suit.
