Unicorn Gundam [Unicorn Mode] - Pearl Clear

Kit Review

Straight build

This kit is the Unicorn Gundam [Unicorn Mode] - Pearl Clear version, which was released as a Bandai Hobby Online Shop exclusive. It's essentially the companion kit to the Destroy Mode Pearl Clear version that was released to commemorate the Unicorn theatrical screenings, and they share the same marble-textured pearl clear molded material. However, since there's no red inner frame, the Unicorn Mode Pearl Clear has an overall cool, bluish feel — quite different from the pinkish tone of the Destroy Mode.

Since the base kit itself is pretty high quality, the Pearl Clear version holds up well too — but given the nature of the pearl clear molded material being extremely hard, cleaning up the gates is a bit of a pain, and there's not much you can do about that. On the bright side, gate marks aren't too visible, which is a relief. ^^ Like clear versions and plated parts kits, the joints do tend to get a little stiff, but compared to other limited editions, it's not that far off from the standard version.

Compared to the Destroy Mode Pearl Clear, this one can feel a little plain — the Destroy Mode definitely wins when it comes to visual flair. That said, the Unicorn Mode has no red to interrupt (?) the marble coloring, so there's something to be said for how clean and elegant the overall look is. Either way, these are a pretty tempting set of limited editions for any Unicorn fan. :-)
