Transformation
The latest addition to the ongoing HGUC Unicorn series is the ReZEL, a transforming mobile suit.
Lore-wise it's basically a mashup of the Gejan and the Re-GZ, and it can
transform into Waverider mode.
As you'd expect from the Unicorn series, the parts separation and overall
finish are clean and polished — very much in line with the latest HGUC standards. The assembly feels precise and satisfying, and articulation and joint strength are both above average. I especially love how even the small white parts are broken up so carefully.^^
That said, compared to other kits there are a few spots that are a bit loose...
The backpack verniers in particular are pretty shocking; despite being held by ball-joint polycaps,
the tolerances seem off and they just rattle around with zero resistance; The side
skirt attachment is also a little iffy. Set those issues aside, though, and the rest of the kit is nice and tight overall.
The transformation works like the HGUC Zeta — disassemble, swap parts, reassemble —
so it's not a full transformation, which is a bit of a shame, but the trade-off is that the
Waverider mode holds together really well. The shape itself is more brick-like (;;;) than sleek,
but the solid fit means it holds its form nicely.
As befits the latest Unicorn kit, this is a high-quality build with a refined design,
transformation gimmick, and impressive color separation for its size — regardless of how deep you are into the lore,
it's a solid and enjoyable kit that pretty much anyone can have fun with. :-)
