Geara Zulu [Angelo Sauper Use]

Kit Review

Straight build
+ panel lining + seals

As the next entry in the ongoing Unicorn HGUC lineup following the Geara Zulu, the Geara Zulu [Angelo Sauper Use] has been released. There was a brief controversy before release over the odd molded color of the pre-production samples, but the final retail version's molded color turned out quite refined and well-balanced. It could've easily come out looking garish, so it's a relief. ^^

Angelo's unit differs from the standard green Geara Zulu in the design of the body, thighs, shoulders, and other areas, and the backpack has been completely redesigned into an entirely new form. Even though the underlying frame is the same, roughly half the parts are new, giving it a noticeably different feel from the regular Geara Zulu — the overall volume has improved significantly, making its presence feel a step up.

Just like the standard unit, Angelo's unit handles all the white stripe sections with seals, and the seal quality is good enough that they blend in without looking out of place... however, the white stripes on parts of the shoulders and torso are not provided. The missing shoulder stripes in particular are a bit of a letdown — you could try cutting out the leftover white seal portions and applying them yourself. I thought about giving it a shot, but since they're all curved shapes, I didn't feel confident cutting them out cleanly, so I passed. ^^;

The Geara Zulu itself doesn't have the best articulation, but the joint strength throughout the body is solid, making it easy to hold poses. The issue with Angelo's unit, though, is that the only weapon is the Lange Bruno Gun (Custom) mounted on the backpack, which limits the range of poses you can pull off. It's really just a matter of one-handed grip vs. two-handed grip — there's not much variety for dynamic action poses, which is a little disappointing.

As part of the HGUC Unicorn lineup that continues to deliver solid, clean quality, this is a great kit that's fun to build without any major quality concerns — as long as you like the design. :-)
