HGUC RGM-79C

GM type C

Kit Review

Straight build
+ Panel lining + Seals

The GM Kai from 0083 has finally made it to HGUC, though it feels like it's quite a bit late to the party. This is a kit that should have come out alongside the Powered GM four years ago — or more accurately, should have come out even before the Powered GM — and it's only just now been released. ^^

Since the Powered GM is based on the GM Kai in the lore, this kit shares a large portion of the HGUC Powered GM's runners. The overall skeletal structure is identical, and you could really just call it a kit with swapped-out armor. Because of that, even though it's a newer release, the quality ends up being right around the same level as the Powered GM from four years ago.

That said, the Powered GM was already a pretty clean kit in terms of quality, so the HGUC GM type C is solid in all the fundamentals as well. Joint strength is very stable throughout, making it easy to handle, and the molded colors and color separation are clean too. Articulation, though, isn't anything flashy — I'd say it's just decent enough to get by. The ankles in particular are a bit stiff, so spreading the legs wide really kills the ground contact, which is a bit of a shame. Compared to the ankle articulation on more recent HG/HGUC kits, the age gap in the design is pretty apparent. Also, the hands tend to pop off when gripping weapons — both of them — which is the same issue as with the Powered GM.

It's not a particularly flashy mobile suit to begin with, but as a solid, clean HGUC with good build feel and quality, I think it's a kit worth recommending to anyone who likes the design. :-)
