HGUC RB-79

Ball Twin Set

Kit Review

Straight build
+ panel lining

The HGUC Ball — something we always figured would show up eventually — has been released as a Twin Set. That means you get two identical kits in one box. The unit itself is so small and has so few parts that including just one would've felt a bit stingy.

The HGUC Ball goes all-in on a clean, simple aesthetic. It looks like they deliberately went for a classic, old-school design, and honestly it's neat and kind of cute. Since the MG Ball was already the pinnacle of intricate detail, they probably figured there was no need to take the HGUC Ball down the same road.

That simplicity also means the parts count is low, so even if you take your time, building one won't take more than an hour — making it a very beginner-friendly kit. The fact that it's such a different shape from your typical robot-type mobile suit gives the build a unique feel, and it's a satisfying, clean little build.

Both Balls come with both the 180mm low-recoil cannon and the twin cannon, so you can mix and match the top-mounted weapons to your liking. Articulation is a bit of an odd thing to discuss with this kit, but the weapons and arms — the only moving parts — do give you enough range of motion to work with. The uniquely shaped stand also holds things firmly in place, so you can display it nice and stably.

You might think it came out a bit too simple — and honestly, that thought did cross my mind — but the overall build quality feels very solid. I wouldn't have minded a bit more detail, but the small size, low price, clean design, and easy build give it a freshness all its own, so I'd say it's a great kit worth recommending to any Gunpla fan. :-)
