Kit Review
Straight build
Straight build
Following the GM Cannon II, the GM variations keep on coming! This time it's the GM III. It showed up in ZZ and in Char's Counterattack, but a kit release always seemed out of reach — then the GM III appeared in Unicorn, and here we are with an HGUC release. (Thanks, Unicorn..)
First off, as you'd expect from a modern GM kit, this one comes out as a high-quality release with clean buildability, excellent color separation, great articulation, and solid joint strength. The color separation in particular — which you wouldn't normally expect to look this refined on a GM-type — comes out in lovely pastel tones, so even a straight build with just seals gives you a really great-looking GM III.
For options, the missile pod cover on the shoulder can be swapped between 2 styles, and the large missile launcher on the side is nicely realized as well. The hand parts also include the dedicated hand runner seen in recent kits, giving you a good variety of well-proportioned hand shapes.
The clean, high-quality HGUC standard goes without saying at this point — but the fact that we get a colorful, pretty GM III at this level of quality makes it more than worth it on its own. A GM II release has already been announced as well, and as an old-school fan, it's really great to see these "dark history" units keep popping up in Unicorn and getting the modern kit treatment.
If you're a GM fan or an old-school fan, this is an absolute must-get — you won't regret it! Compared to the previous GM Cannon II, the colors are even nicer and more appealing, making this an even more highly recommended Gunpla for old-school fans. :-)
