Marasai [Unicorn Ver.]

Kit Review

Straight build

The Marasai has been re-released as a UC variation in the Unicorn Ver. The molded color has been changed to a military-style olive drab scheme, and new weapons — the Fedayeen Rifle and the Hydra — have been added. Unlike the Zaku I Sniper of Yonem Kirks released alongside it, the body is 100% identical to the original, making this a variation that simply adds new weapons.

After only ever seeing the Marasai in its striking orange and crimson colors... seeing one in this military-style color scheme is definitely a change of pace. It actually suits it in its own way, though it does give off a bit of a mass-production vibe. ^^;

The newly added Fedayeen Rifle can be used as both a gun and a blade, and the Hydra connects via a wire so you can recreate a whip-like firing pose. Nothing too extraordinary, but the fact that new weapons were added at all is worth something.

The HGUC Marasai was quite a high-quality kit when it first came out, but looking at it now — seven years after release — you can start to notice some shortcomings in the articulation and a few other areas. That said, since Bandai put real effort into it from the start, it still feels pretty satisfying to build even today.

There aren't any major changes, but there's something to be said for getting another chance to build the clean, high-quality Marasai, and the newly added weapons are best thought of as a nice little bonus. :-) Either way, it's great to see Universal Century suits getting some fresh attention thanks to Unicorn. :-)
