HGUC YAMS-132

Rozen Zulu

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers + Panel lining

The Rozen Zulu, which feels like the ultimate boss of the Geara Zulu line, has been released as an HGUC kit. Once you actually build it, it's surprisingly big — comparable to a smaller MG in terms of presence. ^^

Just like the other Zulu series kits, all the white stripe sections are handled with seals, so the straight build looks pretty dull on its own — but on the flip side, once you get those seals on, the kit transforms dramatically. That said, the Rozen Zulu requires even more seals than the Geara Zulu line kits, so I feel like I spent more time carefully applying seals than actually building the kit. The white stripe sections are clearly defined on the parts, so clean masking and painting should be pretty straightforward too.

The upper body is bulkier than the lower body, and the feet are on the smaller side, so you do need to be a little careful when standing it up — but the joints are solid, so as long as you pay a bit of attention it shouldn't be a real problem. Articulation isn't something I'd call great, but the kit has great presence and a stylish design, so it displays really well with just a decent pose. The shield in particular has a fantastic style and great color separation — I absolutely love it. ^^

The Rozen Zulu comes with quite a few accessories. First, 4 thin wires are included to recreate the wired section of the incom hand launch scene. The middle clip-in parts are also provided as options, you can cut the wires to recreate wired incoms on both hands, and there are even 4 dedicated clear stands included. This allows for a wide variety of display options, and since the psycho-jammers stored on the back can also be displayed in their deployed state, the number of configurations you can pull off is really impressive.

The most frustrating issue with this kit is the molded color of the body.. Both the official design and the box art show it as a slightly deep purple, but the actual molded color looks more like brown no matter how you look at it. ㅡ_ㅡ So it ends up looking duller and darker than the Rozen Zulu I had in my head — if you were imagining a vibrant, flower-like purple Rozen Zulu, this is a molded color worth thinking carefully about.

Anyway, as expected from a new release, the overall build quality is very clean, and with its unique style and larger-than-average size, it's a great kit that should satisfy HGUC fans. As long as you can make peace with the molded color, there's really not much to complain about. :-)
