Rozen Zulu - Clear Ver.

Kit Review

Straight build

This kit is the theater-exclusive Elite Rose Guard Clear Ver. of the HGUC Rozen Zulu. Originally a limited edition released to commemorate the Unicorn theatrical film, some units were later sold through Bandai's online hobby shop as well.

As you can see, this limited edition takes the purple Rozen Zulu and recreates its armor in vibrant clear colors, with the forearms and joints done in a metallic molded color that has a nice sheen to it. Maybe it's the great color scheme, but this stands out as one of the most visually striking clear versions out there — even a straight build gives off that proper limited-edition vibe. ^^

There is one thing that bugged me though... I've built quite a few clear versions over the years, but this was honestly the most frustrating kit to assemble in terms of fit — worse than any other clear kit I've done. T_T The usual tedious cleanup of those stubborn gate marks on clear plastic is par for the course, but there are quite a few parts that just don't want to go together properly — probably because the material's expansion rate changed when they switched to clear plastic. Parts that would snap together smoothly with that satisfying Bandai snap-fit feel in regular plastic become incredibly stiff in the clear version. It got bad enough that I ended up cutting my hand pretty badly on a sharp part while forcing things together. T_T

Anyway, setting aside the unusually grueling build process, the visual payoff once it's finished is really quite something, making it a more rewarding build than most limited editions. If you're a Unicorn fan, this one is definitely worth hunting down. :-)
