HGUC RX-0

Full Armor Unicorn Gundam [Unicorn Mode]

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers + Panel lining

Following the MG release, the Full Armor Unicorn Gundam has now arrived in HGUC form as well. Since the HGUC Unicorn doesn't have a transformation gimmick, the Unicorn Mode and Destroy Mode kits are sold separately — and the Full Armor version is based on Unicorn Mode.

True to the Full Armor concept, the weapons far outnumber what's on the base body. The signature gatling + shield combo, the Hyper Bazooka set with grenade launchers, and the large Booster are all nicely reproduced. The small grenade launcher sections in particular are color separated in red parts, so even in a straight build they look great. On top of that, the blue and gray parts come out noticeably darker compared to the original HGUC Unicorn.

The kit is also designed to keep parts count to a minimum while still maintaining sharp detail, so the build goes more smoothly and quickly than you might expect. That said, the focus on looks does come at the cost of functionality in some areas — the Hyper Bazookas mounted on the back are a bit awkward to actually hold in the hands. On top of that, the barrel extension gimmick is officially left out, so they're basically just there for display purposes.

On the plus side, the standard weapon sets that were split between the HGUC Unicorn Mode and Destroy Mode kits — the beam rifle and bazooka — are each included here as a bonus, so it's a pretty well-rounded loadout that lives up to the "Full Armor" name.

One notable feature is that a separate stand for the large Booster is included, which keeps the proportions stable when you set it down on a surface. And since it's much lighter than the MG, it holds poses well no matter what position you put it in — that's definitely one of the highlights of working at HGUC scale. ^^

Overall, this is a fully armed kit with detail and proportions that are genuinely impressive for HGUC, and compared to the MG — which looked great but was big, heavy, and a pain to pose — this one is far more stable and easy to handle. The price has crept up to ¥3000, which is MG territory, thanks to all those weapons, but if you're a Unicorn fan it's absolutely worth the investment. :-)
