Gelgoog Marine

Kit Review

Straight build + Panel lining

The Gelgoog Marine has been released as the second kit in the 0083 series. It's the first time a Gelgoog-type unit has been made into an HGUC, and compared to the MG Gelgoog — which is basically the king of loose joints — the joints here are actually pretty tight. That said, due to the skirt armor structure and ankle design, leg articulation is below average, so pulling off a wide variety of poses is tough.

It's partly just how the design is, but the Gelgoog Marine's molded colors don't really feel all that premium. Without panel lining, it ends up looking pretty dull and muddy... I think it would've looked a lot better with slightly brighter colors, and honestly this is one of those kits that's hard to recommend to non-painters. That said, adding some panel lining goes a long way toward fixing that. ^^; It really seems like a kit that needs a proper paint job to truly shine..

Personally, aside from the fact that a relatively minor unit like the Gelgoog Marine even got a kit release, there's not much about this one that really wins me over. The molded colors, the articulation, the detail — all pretty average. Still, it's a Gelgoog, so I was happy to see it. ^^;
