Domtropen

Kit Review

Straight build + Panel lining

The Domtropen has been released as the third kit in the HGUC 0083 series. Honestly, I think it would've been better if the original Dom from the One Year War came out first, but somehow this guy got released ahead of it.. Still, since it's never been released before as a kit, it's a fresh addition. ^^

It shares a similar style with the original Dom but with a more refined design — it looks similar, but it's almost entirely a new design with barely anything in common. It captures the characteristic bulk of the Dom really well, though the articulation is inevitably limited by the design itself. Rather than pulling off dynamic poses, this is more of a kit that makes its presence felt just standing there..

That said, the joints are solid and there's no looseness to speak of. Notably, even at 1/144 scale, the index finger moves separately... except there's no weapon that actually requires you to grip with the index finger — the irony (-_-a;) The parts separation and molded colors are quite good, though there are spots here and there where the nub marks from the runners are a bit visible.

It's a little disappointing that the only weapon is a single bazooka, but it's a fresh and novel Dom kit with solid, well-rounded qualities. If you like the look of it, the quality is good enough that you won't be disappointed. ^^
