Dreissen

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers + Panel lining

Following the Dreissen Unicorn version, the original ZZ Gundam version Dreissen has naturally been released as well. There's about a two-and-a-half year gap between them, so it felt a bit later than expected — I'm guessing it was originally going to come out as a limited release like Club G, but ended up getting a general retail release instead.

Anyway, the basic frame and exterior are almost identical to the Unicorn version, with only some of the armor panels swapped out — the ones with the Unicorn-specific markings are gone. In the end, 95% of the look is the same, and the weapons and accessories are identical to the Unicorn version too, so it's pretty much a color variant kit. That said, thanks to the bold, primary colors typical of ZZ, the molded colors are so different that it almost looks like a completely different kit. ^^

Basically, for its size, this kit offers reasonably solid articulation and joint strength, so as an action figure it feels pretty average. What it does have going for it is the sheer bulk and chunky design that's true to the source material — and the new molded colors are so vivid and striking that the bold, primary color scheme actually becomes a selling point. On top of that, the strong colors make the color separation really pop, so the crisp, punchy look you get right after a straight build is pretty satisfying.

All in all, structurally it's pretty much what you'd expect from a ZZ Gundam version Dreissen with no major surprises — but thanks to those bold, vibrant colors, it's a kit I'd definitely recommend to Universal Century fans. ^^ It's certainly more eye-catching than the somewhat muted Unicorn version, that's for sure. :-)
