The HGUC Doven Wolf, which was first released in the Unicorn version, has now come out in the ZZ version as well. It dropped alongside the Dreissen, which shares the same story, both getting the ZZ version treatment at the same time — it's pretty rare to see two Universal Century HGUCs release on the same day like this. ^^ Of course, being color variants made it possible, but February 2014 looks set to go down as a month when a huge number of HGUC-line kits dropped all at once, including the HGCE Strike.
In terms of the kit itself, it's pretty much identical to the Unicorn version — only the Unicorn-specific markings have been swapped out for the standard ZZ version look. The molded color comes in a shade of green that captures the feel of the original colors nicely. It could easily have looked garish, but it turned out rich and vivid, so no complaints there.
The Doven Wolf is a pretty massive unit in the lore, so this kit is a chunky beast roughly MG-sized, and it actually pulls off surprisingly decent articulation for something so big. That said, just like the Unicorn version, the hip joints feel a little loose compared to the rest — not floppy noodle-level bad, but enough that you'll want to be a bit careful when posing it.
The accessories and features are identical to the Unicorn version, so the wire-based arm launch gimmick along with its stand, the forearm frame, the INCOM launch, the Mega Launcher combined mode, and the beam cannon deployment are all faithfully reproduced.
Since it's essentially the same kit as the Unicorn version with just different molded colors, there isn't a whole lot that's new here — but the real value is that this is the original ZZ Gundam version that old-school fans will definitely prefer. With classic Universal Century suits (especially ZZ ones), you kind of want that slightly gaudy, over-the-top color scheme with a hint of the grotesque, and in that sense this feels like a great nostalgia trip. :-)
