Kshatriya Repaired

Kit Review

Straight build
+ panel lining + stickers

The Kshatriya Repaired — the repaired version of the Kshatriya from the story — has been released as an HGUC kit. The Kshatriya was already one chunky unit, but those massive propellant tanks make it even more enormous.

Comparing it to the normal version, the head and chest design have been changed, and the damaged left arm and right leg have been replaced with a Hyper Beam Jabelin and a beam Gatling gun prosthetic leg (?), respectively. On top of that, two of the four binders — the rear ones — have been swapped out for large propellant tanks, giving the overall silhouette a noticeably different feel. With this many parts changed and added, the box has gotten bigger too, and the price has gone up by ¥2,000 to ¥6,500.

The sheer bulk of this thing is on another level — most MG kits don't even come close in terms of presence. Thankfully, there's a built-in support stand underneath the large propellant tanks on the back, so getting it to stand upright is no problem at all. That said, the weight of those tanks makes aerial poses a real challenge — especially when you try to bend the waist mid-air, the center of gravity shifts easily and the waist joint tends to pop right out (-_-), which happens more often than you'd like.

The updated beam axe is nice and large, and since double-edged beam parts are included, it makes for quite a visually striking weapon. Also, unlike the normal version where the funnels were stored inside the binders, they've been moved to fold-out compartments on the outside of the binders. The binders' signature internal sub-arm gimmick has been carried over from the original as well.

To sum it up — between the massive propellant tanks, the oversized beam axe, and the opening funnel compartments, you can pull off some really dynamic poses, which is great. The downside is that the upper body is so heavy that aerial poses are heavily restricted by balance issues. Aside from that, the joint strength throughout the body is solid enough, and for a kit this size, it's actually pretty easy to handle.

The Kshatriya was originally planned as a one-time appearance, but it's such a distinctive mech that it ended up coming back like this. ^^ If you're a fan of the Unicorn series and love big, chunky kits, this is one seriously unique mech that's hard to pass up. :-)
