The Crossbone Gundam X1 has finally made it into the HGUC lineup — though oddly enough, it actually came out later than the HG Crossbone Maoh kit from Build Fighters, which is a spin-off. Normally you'd expect the original Gundam kit to come first and the spin-off to follow, but for whatever reason, the HGUC ended up being the late one here ;;
Naturally, a good chunk of the basic frame reuses runners from the HG Crossbone Maoh, but even so, the various weapons unique to the Crossbone Gundam X1 are reproduced pretty faithfully. For starters, the Zanbuster can be split into the beam zanber and Buster Gun, and the forearm beam parts and beam shield are nicely done as well. Also, probably due to the small scale, the heat daggers stored in the back of the calves are included as separate parts, and the heat daggers that attach to the soles of the feet are included too. The Core Fighter also comes with a separate nose section, so you can swap the backpack on and off to recreate it. Compared to the MG Crossbone, it's essentially got every weapon except the cloak and scissor anchor.
On top of all those weapon accessories, it also delivers smooth articulation and solid joint strength based on the latest polycap system. In particular, weapons that are tricky to grip — like the Buster Gun — come with dedicated hands, so there are no grip issues whatsoever. That said, the waist ball joint is noticeably weak and tends to pop out easily, and the joints are perhaps a bit too flexible, which means it can take a little while to get a pose locked in ^^;
The color separation is also pretty well done, so with just a few stickers and some panel lining, you can put together a look that holds its own against the MG. Thanks to that clean appearance and generous weapon loadout, there's a sense of polish and quality here that feels distinctly HGUC rather than just a regular HG. Either way, if you're a Crossbone Gundam fan, this is a sharp new release you definitely don't want to miss — it's a small kit that fits right in the palm of your hand, yet it's got everything you could want. A really fun build :-)
