Straight build

After the HGUC V2 Gundam came out, this variation was pretty much a given — and here it is, the V2 Assault Buster Gundam. They could've split the Assault Pack and Buster Pack into separate releases if they'd wanted to, but I guess they were worried about sales, because it ended up coming out as a full package with both Assault and Buster combined.

The base kit is essentially the existing HGUC V2 Gundam with just the beam parts left out, and the new Buster and Assault armaments are added on top of that. Looking at how the Assault runner and Buster runner are separated by system injection gates, it seems like they did at least consider releasing them separately as a V2 Assault Gundam and V2 Buster Gundam.

The newly added parts come with color separation and clean quality that you'd expect from an HGUC kit, and the fit on each of the additional parts is solid — once you snap them on, they don't come off easily, which I really appreciate. Extra armaments have sometimes had attachment issues in the past, but it seems like that's been largely sorted out these days.

That said, when swapping between the Assault and Buster configurations, only one backpack mounting part is included, which means you have to disassemble a whole bunch of parts and reuse them — pretty inconvenient. If you're just going with the full V2 Assault Buster Gundam setup it doesn't matter, but for the Buster Gundam configuration you need to use the same style backpack as the original V2, which means you absolutely have to disassemble and reassemble everything. It's not even a significant part — they really should've just included an extra set. Feels pretty stingy. -_-

Anyway, the V2 Assault Buster Gundam delivers pretty much exactly the quality level you'd expect, and if you're a fan of the V2 Gundam, this is a solid, no-fuss HGUC kit that should keep you plenty happy. :-)
