The HGUC Unicorn Gundam just keeps coming back like a zombie — and this time it's the Full Armor Unicorn Destroy Mode Red Color Version. Naturally it's based on the existing HGUC #178 Unicorn Gundam Destroy Mode kit, with the following additions and changes.
- Psycho-frame changed to a clear pinkish tone
- Outer armor changed to a yellowish off-white color with a strong beige tone
- Large number of clear seals added
- Hyper Beam Jabelin added
Since this is the same old HGUC Unicorn Gundam that's been milked to death, there's nothing particularly new to dig into — you just sit back and enjoy the flashy visuals that come from combining all those parts and weapons, and check off what's changed.
The key points are the molded color changes and the addition of the Hyper Beam Jabelin and seals. Comparing it side by side with the existing green-frame version, there's actually quite a bit more visual difference than you'd expect. The massive Hyper Beam Jabelin alone changes the whole feel significantly — though it did bump the price up by ¥200.
The Hyper Beam Jabelin uses the same runner that was previously included as a bonus with Gundam Ace magazine, so the real value here is being able to get it easily through a regular retail release without having to hunt down an old back issue. It comes with both the deployed and folded forms, and you can position the beam parts in a variety of ways. The newly added clear seals also look great with an MG-like quality to them — the difference before and after applying them is pretty noticeable.
This kit is an absolute showstopper thanks to what might just be the most outrageous weapon loadout of any kit ever, and the build work that comes with it easily rivals a typical MG. The visual impact and sheer presence once it's finished are equally record-breaking — among kits loaded up with weapon packs, this one is truly the final boss. Either way, if you're into this kind of kit, this is definitely one you've got to build at least once. :-)
