Kit Review

Straight build + Panel lining

The MG GM is way too slender and ends up looking a bit off, whereas the HGUC GM goes for a stockier, more solid look that's much closer to the original design. The MG GM was so focused on reusing the RX-78 v1.0 base that it ended up with a slightly sleek feel but poor reception — kind of an awkward in-between kit.

The HGUC GM's crotch area (-.-;) captures that flat look from the original design, and with no unnecessary panel lines, it has a clean, simple appearance. Assembly is really easy, and the movable skirt gives the leg articulation more than enough range. The shield — shared with the RX-78 — has surprisingly detailed inner molding that seems to push past the scale's limits, and the arm attachment joint has a great range of motion too. The camera eye on the head is done in a green clear part, which gives it a really nice look. And the price is very reasonable, so the value for money is excellent~

Being a mass-production unit, it's the kind of kit that makes you want to just buy a bunch of them without a second thought and build yourself a whole squad. It's a small but packed kit that's a perfect example of what HGUC does best. ^^
