The GM Ground Type from the 08th MS Team OVA has finally gotten an HGUC release. It already came out in MG form back in 2001 — 16 years ago — but on the HGUC side it took quite a while to arrive, following the GM Ground Type Gundam in 2007 and the Ez8 in 2013.
The GM Ground Type shares essentially the same body structure as the Ground Type Gundam/Ez8, and its parts layout is somewhat similar to the later-released Ez8. That said, the GM Ground Type's design is noticeably different from the Ez8, so in the end all the parts came out as brand-new sculpts with a refined look. Thanks to that, you get slightly improved articulation, more solid joint strength, and a sleeker, sharper appearance — it really does feel like an upgrade overall.
On the weapons front, a net gun and rocket launcher have been newly added, but the missile launcher and long-range rifle that were included with the MG are absent. It's basically a whole new weapon loadout, and having those fresh weapons thrown in does give it a bit of a refreshing feel.
Aside from the beam saber storage gimmick in the calf, there aren't really any special features to speak of — but it's just a clean, satisfying build with flawless quality. It did feel like it came out a bit late, but that also means the quality is rock solid. This is a great HGUC kit I'd recommend to any Gunpla fan. :-)
