HGUC RX-160

Byarlant

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers + Panel lining

The Byarlant from Zeta Gundam has been released as an HGUC kit. Back in 2012, when the HGUC Byarlant Customwas released, I figured the original version would follow soon after — but it ended up taking a whole 6 years. In terms of parts reuse, about 30% comes from the existing HGUC Byarlant Custom, and another 30% is recycled from the HGUC Byarlant Isolde that was released through Club G.

It faithfully recreates the silhouette of the original version, and while some details like the foot verniers are missing, the color separation is well done in the areas that matter. In terms of articulation, the joints are surprisingly sturdy for a kit this size, so it holds poses well and stays put nicely — though the range of motion itself is pretty average. That said, the unique proportions give it a distinctive presence even with just a simple pose, which is a nice touch.

The accessories are pretty bare-bones — just beam sabers, dedicated hands, and a stand joint part — so there isn't a whole lot to explore with this kit. Still, it's a solid, no-frills kit that should make a great gift for longtime fans. :-)
