The gold coating version of the HGUC Unicorn Gundam Phenex Destroy Mode Narrative Ver. has been released as an official retail release. Everything is identical to the existing kit except for the added plated parts, though the price did jump from ¥2800 to ¥5000. That said, the gold coating quality is a step up from previous kits and it really shows. Other gold-plated versions tended to lean heavily yellow — more of a brass feel than actual gold — but this kit genuinely gives off that rich, warm golden color. The coating is also applied evenly, so the variation in coating thickness is relatively minimal.

Just like with other plated kits, the added coating tightens up the joint tolerances, making the joint strength noticeably firmer — in fact, the joints are almost a bit too stiff. Still, that's way better than having them loose. Anyway, since nothing else has changed from the standard kit, it really just comes down to appreciating the look and feel of the plated finish. The styling is great and the coating quality is solid, so purely in terms of visual impact, this plated version looks like it offers really good value for money. :-)
