Death Army

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers + Panel lining

With rare kits popping up left and right as the lineup runs dry, the Death Army from Mobile Fighter G Gundam has been released as an HGFC — something nobody really saw coming. The Death Army is a mass-production-type mech from the show, created through the proliferation of the Devil Gundam's DG cells. If you're not into Mobile Fighter G, there's a good chance you've never even heard of it — but it seems like this release was prompted by the Eldora Army, a unit based on this design, appearing in the new anime Gundam Build Divers Re:RISE. (And naturally, they probably had an HG Eldora Army color variant in mind from the start.)

Setting the backstory aside, this kit delivers the clean, solid quality you'd expect from a typical HG. It's an easy build for anyone, with decent articulation, good joint strength, and a smooth assembly experience. That said, the classic HG polycap problem of shoulders popping out is still here. For weapons, you only get one gold staff-type beam rifle that doubles as a club, plus a dedicated right hand to hold it. The hand and weapon connect via a fixed peg-and-hole gimmick, so there's no grip issue there.

As a bonus feature, the transformation gimmick where the legs fold completely back is included. To pull this off, you can swap in folded-foot parts, and the rear skirt has a gimmick that folds inward. The mono-eye is implemented as a rotating type, and like the SD version, two different mono-eye sizes are placed front and back — so if you disassemble the head and flip it around, you can set it to the smaller mono-eye look.

Either way, this kit is notable for being the first injection plastic model of this unit, and it's a solid, no-fuss kit that's just right for a casual, enjoyable build. :-)
