Shenlong Gundam

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers + Panel lining

Shenlong Gundam from Gundam W has been released as an HGAC kit. Following Wing, Sandrock, Heavyarms, and Deathscythe, this completes the full five-unit lineup. Some internal frames are reused from previous kits, but all the exterior armor features brand-new sculpting.

The structural characteristics are the same as the other HGAC Wing series kits, and it still delivers excellent articulation and solid joint strength. Shenlong Gundam's distinctive color combination is pulled off convincingly through color separation alone, without needing any seals. The weapons — the Beam Glaive and Shenlong Shield — are rendered in solid quality as well, and the signature Dragon Hang deployment locks in firmly. You can also extend its length by adding two extra parts in the middle.

The fundamentally solid construction makes it easy to pull off all kinds of dynamic poses. The ankles in particular are nice and flexible, giving great ground contact stability, and you can enjoy posing without any parts randomly popping off. The one thing that bugs me a little is the green seals on both shoulders — they feel somewhat out of place, and they're a bit tricky to apply cleanly too. If those had been done in color separation instead, this kit would've been pretty much perfect.

All in all, this is a clean, well-executed kit, and it seems like a high-quality HGAC that even non-Wing Gundam fans can have a great time with. :-)
