Duel Blitz Gundam

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers + Panel lining

The Duel Blitz Gundam from the theatrical anime "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom" has been released as an HGCE kit. It's been 22 years since the HG Duel Gundam Assault Shroudcame out back in 2002, so this is quite the upgrade. The base body design concept stays largely the same, but the Assault Shroud armor has been redesigned, and Blitz Gundam's weapons have been upgraded and added to the mix.

First off, the Duel Gundam itself uses the latest SEED construction, giving it that polycap-less joint strength — stiff but solid. There's even a gimmick to drop the hip joints downward, and the flexible waist lets you pull off some really dynamic poses. The Assault Shroud armor itself connects to the Duel Gundam nice and securely, so no worries there, though the Blitz weapons on the forearms feel just a touch loose. Overall though, the fit is solid enough to hold stable poses without any issues.

Looks-wise, it keeps the classic Duel Gundam design language while sporting a slimmer, more modern proportion. The color separation is well done overall — most of it is handled through parts separation, with only some yellow on the weapons needing extra attention. And true to the "Blitz" name added to the Duel Gundam, the right arm carries the Lancer Dart II hyper-velocity kinetic penetrator while the left arm gets the Piercer Lock Gleipnir II. You can launch the Piercer Lock Gleipnir II using a lead wire, and a small clear stand is included to display it.

Another neat feature is that weapon storage compartments have been added on top of both shoulder Assault Shroud armor pieces. The right shoulder stores a high-energy beam gun that can be deployed or detached and held in hand. The rear of the left shoulder opens up to reveal the autonomous-guidance medium-range air-to-air missile Torrents, while the front can store one beam saber.

All in all, this HGCE kit delivers solid fit and a great variety of weapons. After 22 years, the upgrade really shows — it's hard to find anything to complain about. If you're a fan of SEED kits or just dig the look, don't hesitate to grab one. :-)
