Kit Review

Straight build + Panel lining
The 6th entry in the 0080 HGUC series — the Gelgoog J (Jäger) has arrived. Honestly, the MG Gelgoog line got absolutely slammed for being a floppy squid mess, and the HGUC Gelgoog Marine series wasn't much better — molded colors, articulation, proportions, all pretty much in the "not recommended" camp. But this new Gelgoog J... this one is different!!
It's come out with such near-flawless quality that it practically wipes away all the bad reputation the Gelgoog line had built up. Honestly, given the track record of the previous kits and the feeling that it might just be a Gelgoog Marine mold reuse, I wasn't expecting much personally... but once I actually built it, I was genuinely blown away. A Gelgoog at this top-tier quality level — I can't believe it~
First, the molded colors... as you can see in the photos, it's got a somewhat Char-esque color scheme, but it looks quite premium. The parts breakdown is nearly perfect too, so the design colors come through really well. Previous Gelgoogs had major leg articulation issues because of those fixed skirts that looked like a dress, but the Gelgoog J's skirt is split into 4 separate moving pieces, so the leg articulation has improved dramatically. Knee articulation is a pretty standard ~90 degrees, but the ankle articulation is solid, so you can get some really nice poses out of it.
And above all, once you've built it and step back to look, the proportions are just stunning. Standing it next to the Gelgoog Marine makes the difference almost embarrassing... The slimmer legs, the smaller head, the overall well-balanced proportions — it's among the very best in the HGUC lineup. On top of that, the joints have just the right amount of stiffness, with absolutely no loose parts anywhere. Any pose you put it in holds perfectly.
In terms of kit contents, there's a pretty groundbreaking move here — a clear mono-eye part for a 1/144 Zeon mobile suit. (The only issue is that the eye itself is so tiny that once it's finished you can barely see it T_T) A clear mono-eye part that wasn't even included in the previous Guncannon Mass Production type with its much larger camera eye — either way, it's a welcome addition. Along with that, the resin-style left hand shaped for supporting the barrel also has great detail. The 5-nozzle verniers inside the skirt are also a new design, with better detail compared to other kits. The seals are also that premium MG-style clear material. Good stuff~!
You'd think there'd be some parts compatibility with the previously released 0083 Gelgoog Marine, but nope. This Gelgoog J is a completely new mold kit. After comparing them closely, there isn't a single shared part anywhere. It's an entirely different, new and improved, highest-quality Gelgoog that has been born.
If I'm really nitpicking for minor flaws... the beam machine gun attaches to the hand fairly well, but maybe because it's so long, there are times when the grip feels a little iffy. Also, there are a lot of verniers on the backpack, and if you keep handling it, one or two tend to pop off. But given the overall quality, it doesn't really amount to much.
Anyway, this is a kit that's genuinely a joy to build. There's no doubt it'll surprise a lot of people with its groundbreaking quality — enough to completely flip the image of Gelgoog kits in one shot. It's kind of like the feeling you got from the Titans colors Zeta... An HGUC that's about as close to flawless as it gets! I don't usually throw out strong recommendations easily, but this Gelgoog J gets a full-on must-buy!! from me. very excellent kit!
