GM Striker

Kit Review

Straight build + Panel lining + Stickers

The second entry in the Harmony of Gundam series — which you could call the latest MSV line — is the GM Striker. True to form as a setting-breaking machine, it comes equipped with the Twin Beam Spear, made by plugging two beam sabers together (a double-bladed spear of sorts?).

The entire body is wrapped in reactive armor, and the armor has fairly complex molding, so adding some panel lining really brings the kit to life. The base body borrows heavily from the Powered GM — the most recent GM kit at the time — but since all the major exterior armor has been completely swapped out, it feels practically like a brand new kit. Just like its predecessor the Powered GM, the overall quality is very clean, and while the joints don't feel super tight, the kit is small and light enough that they don't feel loose either. That said, it does occasionally lose its balance when holding more demanding poses, which is a bit of a shame.

There are quite a few small areas across the body that are set as yellow, and this kit covers most of them with seals. The color of the seals themselves isn't too bad, but the surfaces they go on are a bit awkward in shape. So you can definitely tell they're seals... T_T Still, those areas would be pretty tough to hand-paint, so going with seals is honestly the easier call.

The Twin Beam Spear is a bizarre weapon unlike anything I've seen before, but the detail is decent and the overall look isn't bad. The beam ends can bend about 120 degrees, and I do like how the two beam sabers are linked and move together — but in practice it's a bit stiff, so trying to move one side and have the other follow along is a little tough. It's honestly easier to just grab both and bend them at the same time.

In some ways this kit doesn't have any particularly standout features, but there's definitely something appealing about a GM with such bizarre, complex armor and weaponry. As an MSV kit, the quality is very clean. It's got a slightly awkward origin, but it's a fun kit to build for the heck of it or to use for kitbashing parts. ^^
