HGUC RGZ-91

Re-GZ

Kit Review

Straight build
+ panel lining

Following the two Jagd Doga kits at the end of 2007, the first HGUC of 2008
kicked off with the Re-GZ. With the upcoming HGUC Nu Gundam release
and more on the way, it looks like Bandai is going to be pushing
the Char's Counterattack series — long known as their "HGUC hidden ace" — for a while.

The price is ¥2800, which is practically MG territory, but that's because it's a full package that includes the BWS on top of the main body. The overall color separation and proportions are excellent — easily holding their own against the MG. In particular, unlike the MG Re-GZ's head, which drew a lot of criticism for widening toward the jaw and looking grasshopper-like, the HGUC Re-GZ's head has a slimmer, more refined look. And in terms of overall body proportions, the HGUC Re-GZ, being the newer release, seems to have the more well-balanced silhouette.

The molded colors on the MG and HGUC are nearly identical, though the MG does have the edge in detail. That said, the advantage of a smaller scale like the HGUC is that there's no hassle from weight — transformation is easy, locking it in place is easy, and posing is easy. Thankfully all the joints are appropriately stiff with no looseness anywhere, which makes it even better.

Overall, it's a kit that feels noticeably nicer than the MG Re-GZ in terms of sheer "feel." There's honestly nothing particularly special to single out, so there isn't a whole lot to talk about — but that also means it sticks to the basics so well that there's really nothing to complain about either.

Bottom line — if you're interested in the HGUC Re-GZ, you don't need to worry about the quality at all. :-)
